Pest Control Cost Calculator
Get a realistic price range for professional pest control, based on the pest, your home size and how serious the problem is.
How this estimate is calculated
We start with a typical US price range for a professional treatment of each pest in an average-sized home with a moderate problem. We then adjust it for your home size, how serious the problem is, and whether you want one visit, follow-ups or a yearly plan.
The numbers are ballpark figures in US dollars. Real quotes depend on your location, the company, and what an inspection finds, so use this to set expectations, then compare quotes.
Baseline ranges at a glance
These are the starting points the calculator uses before it adjusts for home size (about 20% less for a small home, up to around 70% more for a very large one) and severity (about 20% less for a minor problem, around 60% more for a severe one).
| Pest | One-time professional treatment | DIY materials |
|---|---|---|
| Ants | $120 to $300 | $20 to $60 |
| Cockroaches | $150 to $400 | $30 to $100 |
| Rats and mice | $200 to $600 | $30 to $120 |
| Termites | $600 to $2,200 | Not recommended |
| Bed bugs | $400 to $1,500 | $100 to $400 |
| Mosquitoes | $80 to $200 | $30 to $100 |
| Spiders | $100 to $300 | $20 to $60 |

Why the same pest can cost very different amounts
- Size of the home. More space means more product, more time and often more visits.
- How established the problem is. A few ants at a window and a colony inside a wall are different jobs.
- Treatment method. Baiting, spraying, heat treatment, fumigation and sealing entry points are priced very differently.
- What is included. Return visits and a retreatment guarantee raise the first price but can save money later.
Termites and bed bugs sit at the top of the table because the work is harder to do and harder to get right. Termite control often means treating the soil around the foundation, installing bait stations, or fumigating a whole structure, plus a proper inspection first. Bed bugs hide in furniture, seams and wall cavities, so they usually need several visits or specialist heat equipment.
How to compare quotes
Get at least three written quotes and compare these points, not just the headline price:
- A valid license and insurance, which you can usually check with your state or local regulator.
- A written inspection that names the pest and the areas to be treated.
- How many visits are included, and whether retreatment is free if the problem returns.
- The products or method used, and what you need to do before and after (leaving the home, covering food, keeping pets away).
- Contract length and cancellation terms for yearly plans.
Be cautious of pressure to sign on the spot, a very low “introductory” price that leads to a large contract, or a company that cannot show a license.
When DIY makes sense, and when it does not
DIY is reasonable for small, early problems: a handful of ants, the odd cockroach or spider, or seasonal mosquitoes around the yard. Our guides on ants and cockroaches cover the first steps.
It rarely works for termites, bed bugs, rodents living in walls, or any pest that comes back after two attempts. In those cases the cost of repeated DIY products and lost time often ends up close to a professional visit.
